Cesafinews | Over 100 police officers were put at checkpoints in Bacolod | BACOLOD CITY – The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) has put more than 100 people in charge of gun ban checkpoints. This is happening at the same time that candidates for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) are still filing their certificates of candidacy (COCs).
The city’s deputy operations director, Lt. Col. Ronnie Brillo, said that 96 people from 10 police posts, the Bacolod City Mobile Force Company (BCMFC), and the Mobile Patrol Unit (MPU) work at the checkpoints all over the city.
“We have given the Commission on Elections (Comelec) a list of checkpoints,” he said.
Brillo said that they have also put two police officers at the police help desk and people from the Traffic Enforcement Unit at Robinsons Place in Bacolod to help people file COCs.
“Perimeter troops are also made up of standby forces. “There are about 10 of them around here,” he said.
COCs for the elections on October 30 can be turned in until September 2.
The ban will be in place for the whole 90-day election term, which ends on Nov. 29.
Brillo said that all operating units, police stations, the BCMFC, and the MPU are responsible for making “rekorida” or mobile public service statements about the Comelec gun ban.
“We tell people who own guns not to carry them until they have a permit to do so, so they don’t get caught and have to face charges. We hope people will work together,” he said.(via PNA)
